Feeling Grateful and Grief

I've been feeling blessed lately. I was able to see Abigail two weeks in a row, which is unusual because we live far apart and we both have busy lives. I most recently saw her this Wednesday. We spent the day together and had a really nice time.

On Wednesday night, I saw a post that Pope Francis made on Facebook. It's a photo that says, "I thank God for protecting me from what I thought I wanted and blessing me with what I didn't know I needed.".

As I look back on my life, I realize that The Lord has a plan for me. All of my disappointments and missed opportunities have brought the people that I need, the comfort that I want, and the contentment that I want into my life. Things have definitely turned up.

I am blessed to say the least. My best friend has become my family and I am forever grateful for that.

I am also blessed to have had the opportunity to attend a boarding school with such a close community. Today we grieve the loss of a former teacher. She taught at the school for 29 years and greatly impacted the lives of many girls through her time there.

I had the honor of being her advisee for a year. She was so fun, loving and caring. I met with her the year after I graduated after a scholarship opportunity fell through and I had to wait another year to pursue higher education. She talked about how I maybe wasn't supposed to go there. I look back on that conversation and I now know why I've gotten to where I am. As I live the rest of my life, I will see these opportunities more and more and how different people have impacted me.

She definitely impacted my life in a positive way to say the very least. She was a great advisor at school and life. As an English teacher, I know that she is joining Maya Angelou happily.
