Had a great Thanksgiving

I had a wonderful Thansgiving. I invited 8 other people over for dinner, so I cooked for about 10. That was quite interesting since I really don't know how to cook. I downloaded a ton of recipes from the internet and sent out a shout of help on Facebook. Lots of great advice.

I tried to cook the yams the evening before and I really messed them up. Yes, I messed up yams, let me tell you how I did it. I doubled the recipe and doubled the sugar and all that went in, it was way too sugary, way too sweet, way too gross.

I could not serve the yams, but it was too late once I figured out they were ruined to go to the store. I drove twenty minutes on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, to find a Super Wal-Mart that had sweet potatoes. The store was packed. I know people have issues with Wal-Mart, but thank goodness they were open!

I didn't burn anything, but I did forget to brush the top of the rolls with butter. They were hard, but everyone still ate one and smiled anyway.

I had a great day and now I am excited about Christmas. I don't think I am going to cook again though - that was a bit too much.

Doubling Recipes

I'm no Martha Stewart but I have found that ALL recipes can't simply be doubled. You have to adjust the amounts of the different ingredients.

I congratulate you for your courage to try cooking for TEN on your first holiday meal. You are a brave woman. LOL

Remember the important thing is that you had a nice Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving

My wife and I hosted our first thanksgiving this year so I can relate to your post.

We thought that my wifes mom deserved a rest, after all she has only been cooking thanksgiving dinners for almost 55 years.

Both my wife and I can cook but neither of us had ever fixed a turkey and from the reading we did we only got one thing right out of all the steps, but it came out fine inspite of this.

We are thankful that we pulled it off but what I am thankful for most is that I now have a family to spend thanksgiving with, that being my wife, son and wifes family.

I am grateful to be included in someone's family, because of the abuse that happened when I was a child I am excluded from most family functions either because no one wants to face what happened, they don't believe me or that it happened or that it did happen but how dare I let the outside world know about it and besides its not that big a deal right?

My wife's family has taken me in without reservation they do what I have been seeking my whole life which is love without conditions.

The other thing I am grateful for is that my buttermilk mashed potatoes were a huge hit! everyone raved about them and when dinner was done there was none left, DAMN I AM GOOD! lol

Happy Holidays to all
